Dedicated to Mesdemoiselles Lydie and Jenny Pirodon. Intermède and Pas de cymbale were published together as a set in editions for both two pianos and piano four hands. Although the piano four-hand editions bear slightly earlier plate numbers than the corresponding two-piano editions, the consecutive numbering suggests that the two formats were issued as a coordinated publication rather than reflecting a chronological sequence of composition or arrangement.
