W383: Lettres d'Amour
Publisher: Enoch
Date: 1910
Instrumentation: voice: high or medium
Dedicated to Madame Th. Hervix-Kephalinidi. Text by Emma di Rienzi. Written in G major (Enoch plate 7062) and F major (original key, Enoch plate) The text is about putting old love letters away and never viewing them again. The season is winter as the poet speaks of snow with dark, morose skies and her tears of betrayal. The song is somewhat of a lullaby as the poet says that the letters must now sleep among lies and outdated confessions.
