Dedicated to Lucien Wurmser. Written in G-flat major and originally published for solo piano (E. & C. 4849), it combines a buoyant dance rhythm with rich harmonic nuance. Following a swaggering introduction, the lively and attractive melody takes center stage, often embellished with graceful trills and other ornamental figures. The middle section shifts to B minor and introduces a more serious and ardent character. A subtly expressive modulatory passage then leads back to the principal waltz theme, culminating in a flamboyant coda.
