Op. 56: Scaramouche
Dedicated to Paul Braud. Scaramouche is a buffoonish servant: witty, sly, and often mischievous. Chaminade captures this playful spirit through brisk rhythms, sharply etched contrasts, and a mischievous, almost improvisatory melodic line. The work is in rounded binary form, functioning as a scherzo-like character piece in D minor with a contrasting middle section in F major. c 1890.
