Trois Danses anciennes comprises three dances modeled on Baroque and earlier dance forms: the Passepied, Pavane, and Courante. Although inspired by these historical forms, Chaminade treats them in a distinctly Romantic style, blending their characteristic rhythms and gestures with the harmonic and expressive language of her own time.
