This mélodie is a transcription of Op. 9, No. 1, Pièce Romantique, published originally in 1880 and dedicated to one of her teachers, Le Couppey.The text is about the poet trying to forget the hurt and pain he experienced from his love. In his attempts to forget and forgive he decides to trust his love again but is betrayed.
