The Soldier’s Ring tells the story of a soldier who leaves for war after giving his beloved a ring. The ring is simple, made of the poorest metal, yet the girl believes that its reflection, adorned with a wild rose, is more precious than the finest gemstone. The composition is cast in ABA form, with the opening of the B section recalling elements from the A section.
